Maltitol is a sugar (sucrose) substitute with many of the same properties. It is often preferred over sucrose because of its sweetness and it is half as caloric.
Maltitol is mainly used in food products such as candies, chewing gum, baked goods, and ice creams. Other applications are components of pharmaceutical products and plastics.
