Industrial Applications
Initially, dibasic esters had limited uses, but experiments have led to more applications, and it is used across several industries. Some of the applications for dibasic esters include:
Plasticizers-Mixtures or individual esters of glutaric, adipic, and succinic acids make suitable plasticizers for polymer systems like polyvinyl chloride resins.
Polymer intermediate. The mixtures of adipic, succinic, and glutaric acids offer polymer structures. When the correct DBE fraction and properties like low-temperature versatility are selected, they can be customized for specific needs.
Wet strength paper resins-Due to their soluble nature when in contact with water, DBE-2DBE-5 and DBE-9 are used in making polyamides that can react with epichlorohydrin to create wet strength paper resins.
Polyester Polyols for Urethanes-Polyols based on DBE make polyurethane coatings, flexible foams, rigid foams, and elastomers.
Specialty Chemical intermediate- Dimethyl glutarate, dimethyl succinate, and dimethyl adipate are economical and abundant sources of succinic, glutarate, and adipic moieties used in organic synthesis.
Polyester Resins- Dibasic esters extensively manufacture unsaturated and saturated polyester resins.
