DPHP, or dipropyl heptyl phthalate, is a member of the high molecular weight (HMW) orthophthalate group. It is an ester of phthalic acid and 2-propylheptanol (a 10-carbon branched aliphatic chain). DPHP is a very viscous, oily, and hydrophobic liquid that is not soluble in water.

applications:

Like most HMW orthphthalates, DPHP is used as a plasticizer for PVC, also known as vinyl. It can serve as a direct replacement for DEHP (diethylhexyl phthalate) and DINP (diisononyl phthalate) in this application.

PVC products made with this compound are generally used for wire and cable coatings, automotive interiors, and roofing tarpaulins and membranes.

Since DPHP has better UV stability than most plasticizers, it is ideal for outdoor or weatherproofing use.
