n-Butyl chloride is a common solvent and extractant due to its good dissolving properties. It can be used as a solvent degreaser and as a chemical intermediate to make other chemicals, such as organotin compounds, esters, plasticizers, pesticides, and surfactants.


Butyl chloride is also used as an antihelmintic in veterinary medicine to control worms.
