Dimethyl adipate is a fatty acid methyl ester and colorless liquid commonly used in cleaning products and fragrance emitters such as candles and air fresheners. It is soluble in both alcohol and ether while being insoluble in water.

applications:

It has also been introduced as a less toxic substitute for solvents like methylene chloride used paint strippers. Along with the low toxicity, dimethyl adipate is also readily biodegradable, has a high flash point, and has a low odor profile upon oxygenation. These factors allow it to be used in a variety of applications including agrochemicals, polymer intermediates, and lotions.
